Locarno to Vienna

So I’m relaxing in my hotel room in Vienna after a pretty ridiculous 24 hours.

Yesterday afternoon in Locarno we saw Deep Purple and Foreigner, which was pretty fun. Foreigner channelled 80s arena rock with a big set full of ridiculous poses and big hair, and it was so stupid it was kind of charming. Plus, the bassist looked heaps like the bassist from Circle Pit, which was mildly entertaining. They even came back for a (barely asked for) encore, which was pretty inevitable since they hadn’t played “I Wanna Know What Love Is” yet.

Deep Purple were pretty fun, though way more dramatic than I remember. Steve Morse almost looks like something out of Metalocalypse and he did a nice little MJ tribute, playing a teaser of “man in the mirror” before smoke on the water.

Pretty much straight after that we drove down to Milan, which is a fun drive at 1am. After a terrible attempt at sleep we flew into Vienna, and got to exploring. We decided to catch some classical music in the opera house tonight, which seems like a bad idea to me. The show takes place in traditional costume playing Mozart’s “greatest hits”. They even have folks in traditional wear accosting people in the street to buy tickets. Sounds like a massive tourist trap. But who knows, might be worth the €60 that isn’t coming from my pocket.

We also had the Sacher Torte at the Sacher Hotel, which is apparently one of the world’s most famous cakes. It was tasty, if not quite living up to it’s reputation. Which brings us here. Off to the opera house soon, on hardly any sleep. Tomorrow will see some proper exploration, followed by Morrissey. Good times!

Miss all back home! If anyone wants to get in touch, text me on +33648529040! It’s my European prepaid, and I’ve got plenty of credit 🙂
